Dehydrating Raw Ground Beef, Meat, Chicken in Oven for Canoe Tripping

Image
Dehydrating Ground Beef for Canoe Tripping In late spring, early summer, typically the last week of June going into the first week of July our Venturers would do a 7-10 day whitewater canoe trip in the Quebec wilderness. With these longer trips, the protein portion of the meals becomes a challenge near the tail end. We had a few methods including freezing meat such that it would last a few days, tinned tuna and chicken, jerky, and dried sausage. We added to this list, dehydrated ground beef. Not owning a "proper" dehydrator, we did the work in a normal home oven. It worked like a charm, but I hesitate to think about the electrical consumption, over the several hours it takes. There was also a lot of washing in hot water to get rid of the grease. Usage was straight forward with hot water. Though when the kids drop the dehydrated crumbs on the soil, it is a definitely challenge to pick them out from the dirt! We would typically use this in a Dutch Oven based Shepherd's Pie....

New Favorite Pioneer Mountain Bike Trail Map, above Nevada City California

Image
New favorite trail:  Pioneer Trail above Nevada City! It is a mild ride and well marked from where my wife, teen son, and I started: White Cloud. There are many other parking areas to access this trail system. Check out the Hallelujah Trail as well! The trail is marked with these tags and stakes at trailheads where one system meets another. Easy to follow. We started right off of hwy 20 outside of Nevada City. We used the Forest Service station higher up (White Cloud campground) about halfway between NC and hwy 80. We will start closer to NC next time, like the Five Mile House area/deli/Scott’s Flat stopping point. I want to check out trailheads closer to NC in the future to make for a long ride. We did an out and back. Once before, I did a loop, but broke my chain with no tools. Don’t go to the road if you have issues. Follow the dirt back! Truckers are crazy close!! 14/15 miles of trail from a few miles outside of Nevada city. Could make for a 30 mile dirt ride. Nevada City sits ...

Kinkuna Beach Permit Camping, Fishing, Fire, Dogs, Tides Times Bundaberg Qld

Image
January 15, 2021 Me again, I posted earlier in the week about our stay at Cania Gorge, the first of 3 stops for our family holiday.  Now we’ve made our way across to the Bundaberg coast line to Kinkuna Beach. One word to describe this place = paradise!! 3 nights just isn’t enough!  It is a bush camp with 4wd access only; the sand is very soft and thick so be sure to let your tyres down. You have to be fully self sufficient as there is no power, water or amenities. There is phone service on the beach and a little corner store in Elliot Heads approx 40mins away if needed. My husband caught a few fish off the beach, and if it wasn’t so windy he would have put the little boat in to go a bit further off shore.  BIG4 Cania Gorge Holiday Park Cobb and Co We absolutely loved it here! The kids had a ball! Hot tip if you do take kids along, take some swing accessories (got ours from Bunnings) as there are plenty of perfect trees to hang them from!  We could be as noisy as we w...

Cania Gorge Free Camping, Retreat Accommodation Qld

Image
January 12, 2021 We just spent 3 nights at the beautiful BIG4 Cania Gorge Holiday Park and loved it. We didn’t have perfect weather; it rained in and off basically the whole time, but that didn’t stop us from getting out and exploring what that part of our state has to offer!  We have a camper trailer and two kids under 5, and nothing was too hard or too much to handle. We went on 3 of the nearby bush walks (and there’s many more on offer if you have more time or nicer weather).  Kinkuna Beach Cobb and Co The park itself is lovely. Large and clean amenities, friendly hosts, lots of choice of camp sites from powered, to unpowered, to cabins of different sizes. We were on an unpowered site and it was very spacious.  There’s an awesome water park for the kids, bird feeding daily, camp kitchens and cookouts, fires allowed, movies under the stars, golf course, jumping pillow, nearby dam or creek fishing and so on.  We drove 9 hours to this park and would definitely go bac...

Best 4wd Beach Camping and Fishing Spots Qld (Queensland)

Image
1. BIG4 Cania Gorge Holiday Park 2. Kinkuna Beach 3. Cobb and Co January 16, 2021 Third and final camp spot review from me for our family getaway.  We’ve taken 10 days to explore a few places around qld, and each one has had a different vibe and things to offer from the last. We left home in the Scenic Rim and travelled 9 hours (a few pit stops for the kids add a fair bit of time to any trip lol) to Cania Gorge (between Monto and Biloela), then another almost 4 to Kinkuna Beach (Bundaberg coast) and finally 3 more hours landing us at Cobb and Co (near Gympie).  Cobb and Co Nine Mile Camp Ground has been a wonderful spot to finish off as it has shower and toilet amenities which we obviously didn’t have at Kinkuna. There’s two great playgrounds for the kids (one well shaded). There’s a great sized billabong to swim in so be sure to pack floaties, noodles, little inflatable boats etc. A few goats and a horse happily await your pats as you enjoy ice creams and coffees from the cut...

Mercury Outboard There Was No Water Coming from Tell Tale / not Working / Alarm OFF

Image
I have a 2005 mercury 60 EFI it was taken out of the water last October without having the salt water of fuel flushed out, I started the motor for about two seconds and switched it off immediately as there was no water coming from tell tail, what should be my next step be ...Thanks I’d run it in a bucket with muffs and a full bucket to put a little more pressure on the water inlet. If it still doesn’t pump I’d change the water pump. Give it a couple of seconds to try to start pumping before you turn off. If it is the water pump you won’t do any more damage than what has already been done running it for 10 seconds in a bucket. The water pump has to be submerged in a bucket not just the intake fins. It is not a suction pump. You have to have water level above where lower unit bolts together. Also check the line where the water comes out sometimes a bug will block off the hole. If you have a air compressor blow back through the piss hole while running and see if it starts pissing Pull the...

Best Way How to Wash/Clean Boat & Engine after Salt Water

Image
How do you guys flush your engine after a day in salt water ? Some people start the motor with muff, some people attach the muffs and run way get through. I just apart the hose on both sides of the intakes to clean most of the saltwater out. Just seeing what other people do. Answer : - Run on muffs with saltaway. - It’s a difficult thing if you leave it in. If you’re lucky enough to have a lift, and it’s an older motor, good luck getting those muffs on. I’ve been doing salt for a couple weeks a year, and just lift the motor out, then do salt away when I get back home. I just had to tear the motor apart from a bad mechanic not troubleshooting it right, and it looked good. So just don’t worry and do the best you can and it will be ok. - 5 mins on Muffs and a good spray down . Since I live close to a river , I’ll go up n down the river a few times for a good thorough flush also - We’re berthed so hook up a hose to each engine let it run about 5 minutes Other Questions How do you ...

Best Semi Auto Caliber Deer Rifle for a Petite Woman

Image
Got my woman into hunting this year now her birthday is around the corner. I want to get her a new rifle so she’s got her own and not mine so with that being said.! and I can’t get just no ordinary plain rifle. Let’s see some attachments y’all have on your hunting rifles everything from your flashlight mounts, scope, stocks, bipods etc. The following suggestions from my friends : - I’ve hunted with a Remington 700 .280 cal for years. It’s nothing fancy, but it does have a limb saver on it. Absolutely love the gun. This past Christmas my boyfriend bought me an AR10 .308, and I had killed a decent buck with it before season ended. - 280 rem. It’s been my favorite hunting rifle by far. I’ve never lost a deer since I started hunting with it. - Love my 6.5 creedmore, killed two nice bucks with it last year. - I love my AR-10 .308 best gun hands down she won’t regret it - I love my 30-30. I've used 308, 243, 300 blackout but always go back to the 30-30. - Look into a .350 legend. Good to...

I need to replace the carburetor on my 75 cj5 304 mild cam, headers, edelbrock performer intake. Question is what size to put on and what brand. Not wanting to put on sniper efi yet, mostly drive streets and trails so carburetor should work. Would appreciate any information and experience. Thanks for your help. But then, What did it have on it and why are you replacing it? Did it go bad or do you want to change it because of the other mods you made? Would be nice to have some more info. Not sure what it originally had a holly 650 maybe always ran rich, flood out on hills also had a edelbrock torker on it. Best Ways How to Catch and Attract Fish in a Lake to Your Bait

Image
Probably one of the best videos taken to date that shows exactly how eating lake trouts will act, as the bait falls you see the  full arch that the lake trout creates, once that fish starts coming beyond the deep water the main mistake people make is they wait to long to start retrieving. In this video you can see that once the bait is about 10ft above that fish the reeling cadence starts to take place, within seconds that fish sky rockets up and crushed the swimbait with no hesitation, with the prey having no where to go the lake trout just can’t resist a nice juicy @impact_baits swimbait fleeing away!!  Give yourself that little bit of gap on the screen and believe me when that fish wants to eat IT WILL EAT. Hopefully this little tackle tip with get more fish in your boat 🤙 —> LOCATION; LAKE SIMCOE, Ontario, Canada Before that, my friends do the same in Utah but have a lot of fish chase and not hit. In addition, They are using7inch tubes fish run anywhere from 8 to 40....
